Carpal Tunnel Sindrome tips

Your hand is innervated by to main nerves that travel through your wrist, the median and the ulnar nerves. Moreover, the median nerve passes through a narrow space called Carpal Tunnel, and sometimes it can swollen, squeezing and compressing the nerve inside, causing pain, numbness and tingling in the palm, thumb and the first two fingers of your hand. Eventually, the pressure causes sharp shooting pain in your wrist , and it  becomes harder to grab and hold on to things, producing difficulty in performing your daily activities.

There are many things that can cause Carpal Tunnel Syndrome such as repetitive movements with your hand, bad position of your wrist at the computer, but most of the time this pain starts at night when your wrist is flexed while you sleep. It typically starts in the dominant hand, but it can occur in both. Women are more likely to suffer from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, maybe because the Carpal Tunnel  is smaller in the female wrist.

If you have some any of the symptoms mentioned above, you can do the following exercises in order to prevent pain settle:

Exercise 1: -Make a fist

Stretch your fingers until your hand is fully open.

Exercise 2 – Flat hand

Separate your fingers like a fan as far as you can.

Do 10 repetitions for each exercise 3 times a day.

Another way of treatment for Carpal Tunnel syndrome is with Osteopathic Manipulative Technique which can be used to stretch soft tissues, release tissue adhesions, decrease restricted motion,  strengthen muscles and decrease edema. All these techniques help to increase the gliding between the structures inside the Carpal Tunnel which improves the inflammation, bringing as consequence a reduction of pain and all of the symptoms mentioned above.
